On July 28th, Winnipeg was host to over 8000 athletes representing Police and Fire Fighters from around the world. Winnipeg Studio Theatre’s StudioWorks Academy was invited to participate in the amazing Opening Ceremonies event produced by Patrick Roberge Porductions (PRP). Our young performers literally rubbed shoulders with the athletes as they entered the Canada Life Centre, then performed a beautiful choral version of our National anthem followed by a stirring vocal tribute honouring fallen firefighters and members of the police force. I was truly a proud “musical theatre mama”!
As an alumnus of the Rusalka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble (circa late 70’s), I was thrilled to be invited to attend Journey Through Ukrainian Dance marking the ensemble’s 60th anniversary. Presented by Rusalka and curated by Rusalka alumnus Markian Tarasiuk, this multi-dimensional, immersive presentation of the legendary style of Ukrainian dance opened on June 5 and runs until September 30 at Oseredok Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Centre. The exhibit delves deep into the history and art form of Ukrainian dance, while celebrating the illustrious 60 years of the Rusalka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. So many memories captured and such an incredible display of Ukrainian culture captured through dance. Kudos to all involved!
